January 28th, 2007

God could have put each of us
In our own life cubicle
And monitored our
Individual progress.

He could have given us
The choice of wall color:
Brown, Beige or Grey
With which to smear
On cinder block barriers.

A dull, safe life.

I thank Him every day for
Not taking that path.
Instead, He made one small globe
For all to live.

Forced, meaningful bonds.

We can lift each other up
While being lifted.

He has given us the
Burden of influence and the
Boon of alliance.

I revel in this wisdom
In the same moment my roommate
Turns out her light--

And Closes the door.
