I know this isn't a poem, but I just got back from Velour and want to let you in on Provo's secret.
It's got talent.
I was there, playing with my band, "Lucky 13". We were 7th in a line of 17 performers. There was not ONE group that didn't impress me this evening (Even the beyond-wasted guitarist before us had a certain unique quality I admired). There was a group of four high school-aged boys playing the (1) Guitar (2) Accordion (3) Xylophone and (4) Pots and pans. They brought the house down. All of their groupies (upwards of 12) rushed toward the stage and gave them the applause they deserved. They rocked.
Everyone rocked. And after someone was done (we only got to play two songs each because it was open mike night), other performers would approach them and say how good they were. I got so many compliments from really talented musicians, saying that they enjoyed our sound and wondered where they could find our music online. (that's on it's way, by the by).
It was aprofound experience that I wish on all people in search of artistic greatness. It was so neat for us to be surrounded by fellow artists, creating and sharing their talents.
Go go go to Velour on Tuesday nights. Go.
