Poetry Poker, revisited.

It's that time of year again, when I whip out the word cards and play Poetry Poker with my kids. Here were the 5 words I drew that I had to use in my poem. I did one on the whiteboard to show my students that the task I expected out of them is possible. Here it is!

The vacuum of time
Sucks the world out of me.
January emerges as a promise
And vanishes like a mouse
Escaping the feline fate.
Cement resolutions, vows to change
Are buried in the unforgiving snow.

When I die and reach that table
Pearly white, God counting my deeds
Like coins in a purse's cave,
Will I come out even?

Can I go backward
And fix my mistakes?
Will he let me stay seated,
If I show him my crisp list
of good intentions?
