CONFINEMENT
(written on November 16 2006)

I felt as a small canary in an over-sized cage.
There was room to grow, welcomed things to learn.
Comfort found in large shoes.

Through the years the canary has grown,
Doubled, tripled her size.
But cages cannot expand.

The cage is beginning to be
More confinement than shelter.
Her wings unable to reach their full span,
Though she has been taught and encouraged to fly.

She will be released soon
Into the learned known.
Her brooding eagerness quickly digressing back to the comforts of steel.
