January 22nd, 2007

I walk briskly--time against me.
The balls of my feet in scheduled pain.
Cause: Black stiletto heels.
I concentrate on the next cube of sidewalk
Below me.

A little girl catches my eye.
Her enjoyment is easily
Twenty times that of mine.

It is as if she is seeing everything
For the first time.
Everything has worth and value.

I find time to stare.
She gleefully stomps on her surrounding snow--
Clumps of innocent annihilation.
Cause: Her pink flowery boots.

My boots take me to class--
Up stairs and into metal seats.
Her boots take her to life--
Beyond definition and into discovery.

I laugh as I walk by--
My first thought being
To ask her mom where
She bought the boots.

It is my very favorite one. A wish for shoes to take us to magical places. They're as available at PayLess as at Nordstroms. You're amazing.
