Movie Review
I went up to Salt Lake last night to see Happy Go Lucky. I don't usually go see movies by myself and if I do, and I go all the way up to Salt Lake, it is because I really want to see it. So many of the intricate and beautiful movies don't make it down to Utah Valley, it's a shame.
This movie was only okay. I've seen some great movies at The Broadway, but this wouldn't make my top ten. I thought I'd love it: a story of a young single woman, school teacher, sees the best in every situation, falls in love with a social worker and lives life to the fullest. But I found myself looking at my watch, wondering how much longer I would be dragged through the monotony of her day's adventures.
Poppy (main girl) is a terminally optimistic person. It seems like everyone around her is grumpy and cheerless, but she doesn't let any of that bother her in the slightest. Endearing, right?
No. Really annoying. She is the type of person in my life that I avoid. The kind of person that had never had a bad day in her life and does not understand that sometimes, it is okay to not smile or have a clever quip to say.
Toward the end, I thought about walking out. Not because of language or subject matter, just because I was a bit bored. The movie did pick up when she begins to see that she has led a man on with her flirtatious attitude. She becomes aware of what influence she has over others. She also falls in love with a very attractive man, so that was fun to watch.
But overall, I wouldn't recommend it. It's a neat idea for a movie that should have lasted 30 minutes, not 1 1/2 hours.
